Dr Harmandar Singh Gupta
Dr Harmandar Singh Gupta was born in Mbarara in 1942 and attended Ntare School and went to Ibadan University in Nigeria where he qualified as a medical doctor. He came and worked at Mulago hospital and he later set up his own private practice in Mbarara. He was under strict instructions from his wealthy father SS Gupta not to charge fees to poor patients who could not afford to pay for treatment. Hence he was running his medical practice on almost charitable basis. After expulsion of Asians in 1972 he moved to Kinshasha where he became the official doctor to V.I.P’s and Diplomats. He subsequently moved to Bristol in the UK where he set up a Nursing Home. He now leaves a retired life in Bristol.
