Sardar Kishan Singh Bassan

Sardar Kishan Singh Bassan went to Uganda around 1930’s. He was born in 1912 in Atowal. After acquiring his education up to matricula- tion he then followed a diploma in Electrical Engi- neering from Rawalpindi. He emigrated to Uganda in 1930 to join his father Sardar Ganga Singh.

Sardar Ganga Singh had been in Uganda since ap- proximately 1920’s and worked as an overseer in the Ministry of Works in the Head Office in Entebbe. He was also responsible for selecting and recruiting skilled workers from India on behalf of the Gov- ernment of Uganda. He worked in the Ministry of Works till his retirement in 1951 after which he went back to India. Sardar Kishan Singh Bassan worked in the Head Office of Ministry of Works in Entebbe. He worked hard and diligently and his outstanding service was recognized by the British authorities and he was decorated with Member of British Empire on 03.12.1960.

Sardar Kishan Singh was an active member of the Sikh community and played a major role in building a new Gurdwana in Entebbe. He served the office in charge until his retirement in 1967 when he returned back to India. He passed away in May 1994
